The Fifth Wave - Book 1The 5th Wave follows sixteen-year-old Cassie Sullivan after a catastrophic alien invasion unfolds in “waves” that collapse technology, unleash disaster and disease, and finally destroy trust itself as the invaders begin hiding in human form. Alone and armed with little more than grit and an urgent promise, Cassie sets out to find her kidnapped little brother, Sammy, while trying to survive in a world where any “rescuer” could be the enemy. Her path collides with Evan Walker—mysterious, wounded, and possibly the only person who can help her reach the military base where the children have been taken—forcing Cassie to choose between isolation and the terrifying risk of trusting someone again.
The Infinite Sea picks up with Cassie and the other survivors reeling from what they’ve learned about the invasion and what it has done to the last pockets of humanity. As the so-called Fifth Wave spreads, Cassie, Ben (Zombie), and Ringer struggle to stay alive long enough to understand the Others’ endgame and figure out how to stop it, even as fear and suspicion threaten to splinter the group from within. The novel leans hard into the idea that the aliens’ greatest weapon isn’t firepower—it’s the way they turn humans against one another, pushing the characters toward choices that test love, loyalty, and what “winning” could even mean.
